Founded in 1998, UPMC Health Plan is one of the largest health insurers in western Pennsylvania and is owned by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Located in Pittsburgh, the health plan offers programs for patients with chronic diseases like congestive heart failure, asthma, and diabetes. UPMC Health Plan offers several plan options, including commercial benefits, Medicare, medical assistance and children s health insurance program. Its commercial plan offers group benefit plans, including preferred provider organization, the exclusive provider organization, enhanced access point-of-service and consumer directed health plans. The plans offered cover several services, including preventive visits to the doctor, emergency room care, hospital admissions, prescriptions, and dental and vision services. UPMC Health Plan caters to more than 900,000 members and its network comprises community providers, over 80 hospitals and nearly 7,000 physicians. UPMC Health Plan is part of UPMC Insurance Service Division.
