Dan and Dorothy Boxler's passion for fine food and entertaining led them to open the Country Butcher in 1982. Dan wanted to carry on a family tradition with his roots in food ( Dan's grandfather owned a specialty food importing business in Johnstown, Pa ). By the time Dan graduated from college with a business degree, he was sure his future was in the food industry. He then pursued a certificate in the art of Meat Cutting. Having grown up in Southern Chester County, Dan and Dorothy decided Kennett Square would be the perfect location to open their new business. The Country Butcher was built on the simple idea of giving their customers the very finest quality foods in a welcoming and warm environment. They started by offering their customers USDA Prime Meats that were all natural, grass fed and locally raised. Over the years, the Country Butcher grew to include a Cheese Shop, Deli, Prepared Foods, and a Bakery and Caf serving breakfast and lunch. They also take pride in offering their customers the finest locally produced foods including Kennett Square Mushrooms, Goat's Milk Gelato from Kennett Square, Honey from Middletown, Scrapple from Chatham, as well as much more. The Country Butcher has the distinction of being one of a few gourmet markets in Pennsylvania to have a Wine Shop. This quaint corner wine shop features 10varieties of red, ros , and white wines from Penns Woods Winery, a local Southern Chester County vineyard. Country Butcher customers know that Dan and Dorothy are always looking for the finest food items; both local and imported. Whether you need a cheese tray, a complete meal or just dessert, it can be found here. Several times a year, Country Butcher holds store-wide customer appreciation tasting events featuring gourmet foods and local wines. Knowledgeable Country Butcher employees are on hand to answer questions and offer culinary suggestions. Dan and Dorothy invite you to stop in and enjoy the complete Country Butcher experience.
