Shaler EMS also relies on professional volunteers to staff its ambulances. Volunteers are one of Shaler EMS' most valuable assets. There are over 20 volunteers, who contribute an average of 10, 000 volunteer hours a year. Using both paid staff and volunteers, Shaler EMS operates three ALS ( Advanced Life Support ) ambulances.
