His research has been funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Cancer Institute, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the US Food and Drug Administration. He maintains an active clinical practice devoted to the care of patients with chronic viral hepatitis, particularly those coinfected with HIV.
