My primary interest as a neurosurgeon-scientist is the restoration of function after the brain has been damaged. From the clinical side, I work in the areas of neurotrauma, functional neurosurgery (i.e., deep brain stimulation and epilepsy surgery), and the resection of tumors in and around eloquent brain tissue. I am interested in clinical trials examining new methods for restoring brain function, mapping brain activity after injury, and bringing new technologies such as augemented reality into the operating room. I also run a translational laboratory focused on rebuilding the circuitry of the brain using a combination of techniques drawn from stem cell biology, neural tissue engineering, and neural interface technologies.

As a primary care physician, I strive to provide a welcoming and supportive experience for patients of all ages, racial and ethnic backgrounds, genders and sexual orientations, and those who have experienced trauma or historically faced discrimination in the healthcare system. At Penn Family Care, I provide continuity care, chronic disease management, and reproductive health services with family planning options, procedures, contraception, colposcopies, prenatal care, and obstetrics. At the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, I deliver babies and provide newborn care. At Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, I provide inpatient hospital care for patients of our practice. I enjoy providing preventative healthcare and management of chronic medical conditions. Additionally, I am passionate about medical student and residency education, and I often work with learners in the office who greatly enhance the care I provide.
