Capuchin Franciscans
The Capuchin Franciscans in Pittsburgh, PA, are a religious order with a rich history dating back 150 years. Founded by three friars from Bavaria, their mission was to establish the Capuchin Order in America and serve the German immigrant community. Today, the Capuchin Franciscans continue their work of evangelization, providing spiritual guidance, and engaging in outreach initiatives such as housing for pregnant and parenting women in need. They also have a Padre Pio Prayer Center that reaches out to the community and offers workshops on Franciscan spirituality.
Tragically, the Capuchin Franciscans recently experienced the loss of two of their members. Ryan Realbulto, a Cap Corps Volunteer, was fatally shot during an attack in Washington, DC, while another member, Mike Greb, passed away at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. Despite these losses, the Capuchin Franciscans remain committed to their mission and continue to celebrate their anniversary and the contributions of the 1,230 men who have professed vows as Capuchins in the Province.
