Dr. Daniel Altman is a nationally recognized expert in the field of orthopaedic spine and trauma surgery. He completed a fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in Spinal Surgery, after which he served as a Clinical Fellow and Instructor in Orthopaedic Trauma at Harvard Medical School/The Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Currently, Dr. Altman is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine. He has served as the Director of Orthopaedic Spine Trauma at Allegheny General Hospital since 2004. He is passionate about education and directs the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at AHN. Along with his clinical and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Altman has maintained an active interest in research, which has resulted in over 40 publications in professional journals, including The Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has authored multiple book chapters and presented at numerous national and international meetings. Currently, his basic science research focuses on orthopaedic biofilms and their effect on bone healing. His clinical research is focused on improving outcomes after spinal and major orthopaedic injuries. Dr. Altman is a member of numerous medical societies and committees. These include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the North American Spine Society, and the Pan American Trauma Society. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
