Afro American Music Institute

The Afro American Music Institute (AAMI), founded by Dr. James Johnson and his wife Pamela, is a Pittsburgh-based organization dedicated to promoting the arts and nurturing musicians through a specialized educational curriculum. AAMI offers a variety of music classes designed to build creativity and confidence in students of all ages.

In addition to its educational programs, AAMI is actively raising funds to expand its facilities in honor of legendary jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal, a native of Pittsburgh. The institute also hosts events that showcase classical music by Black composers, further enriching the cultural landscape of the community.
