The Oregon Department of Forestry is responsible for the overall management of forests and wild life. Established in 1911, the department is also engaged in the collection and sharing of information about the conditions of Oregon's forests for protecting forestlands and conserving forest resources. The Oregon Department of Forestry also prepares statewide forest resource policies that are coordinated among Oregon s natural resource agencies. The department provides fire protection services for more than 16 million acres of private, state and federal forests. The Oregon Department of Forestry is also responsible for the detection and control of forest insect pests and tree diseases. The department offers forest resource planning and community and urban forestry assistance services.
