Established in the early 1920s to combat persecution of Catholics at the hands of the Ku Klux Klan, Oregon Catholic Press produces spiritual and informational resources in a variety of media. It administers more than 20,000 copyrights, publishes hundreds of collections of music and produces more than 1,500 compositions via sheet music. The organization estimates that nearly two-thirds of the United States Catholic parishes subscribe to at least one of Oregon Catholic Press missal programs. It also conducts more than 400 workshops each year in parishes and dioceses throughout the U.S. In 1928 the organization acquired the Catholic Sentinel, an award-winning diocesan newspaper that it publishes to this day. Oregon Catholic Press was founded by Archbishop Alexander Christie and has headquarters in Portland, Ore.
