Orthopedic medicine has its early roots in the correction and prevention of deformity. Dr. Kimberly Workman had her first exposure to orthopedic surgery at a very young age, when she lived abroad in a third-world country where her father was helping to establish an orthopedic clinic at a local hospital. There, she saw many people with acute traumatic injuries, congenital deformities, and post-traumatic deformities due to untreated trauma. “Seeing my dad work with his patients to improve their functional ability and quality of life sparked my interest in orthopedics,” she states. During her orthopedic training, her interest became focused on the lower extremity, particularly foot and ankle problems, lower extremity trauma and deformity, and treatment for knee and ankle arthritis. Dr. Workman believes that, “each patient has a unique story and their orthopedic ailments affect their lives in different ways.” She tells her patients, “I don’t treat x-rays, I treat the person. I enjoy listening to and getting to know my patients and developing a personalized plan with them to help them get back on their feet!” Dr. Workman is a board-certified, orthopedic surgeon with extensive sub-specialty training in foot & ankle, focusing primarily on lower extremity trauma, limb lengthening, deformity reconstruction, ankle arthritis, and ring fixator surgery. Additionally, her area of practice includes both simple and complex total knee replacements, total ankle replacements, and general orthopedics.
