After feeling impressed by God to start an evangelical work in the Hermiston area. Mrs. Grace Trumbull and a small group of local individuals founded what would become Hermiston Assembly of God in 1934. Sisters Nadine and Virginia Grace soon took over the little congregation. Then came Brother Al Turner in 1937 and Brother Greeley in 1938-1939. As Hermiston grew with the Ordnance Depot installation, Brother Shelby Graves (1939-1940) affiliated the growing church with the Assemblies of God organization. Rev. Leland Morse pastored for one year; then Rev. Tom Blick for two years during which time the name was changed from Pentecostal Tabernacle to Hermiston Assembly Of God. The church was bursting at the seams when Rev Henry Silvius began his pastorate in 1947, so a new structure was built on the same grounds. During the time that Rev. Clyde and Melba Ross were co-pastors (1949- 1957), revival occurred with many new converts. Rev. Bert Albritton pastored from 1957-1962, and the building was expanded. Rev. Jack Bransford oversaw expansion until there was no further possibility of expanding on this property. When Rev. C.K. Barnes took the church in 1971, plans began to formulate for a new building on a new site. The dedication of the new facility at 7th Street and Hurlburt took place in 1978. Rev. Harvey Schmautz served the longest tenure, leading the congregation from 1981 until he retired in 1999. Presently, Rev Terry Haight is Senior Pastor. The sanctuary was remodeled and rededicatied in 2005 and the fellowship hall was remodeled in 2009 under the direction of Pastor Terry Haight. We look to the future for God's blessing on this church and the Hermiston area.
