I decided to go into medicine to further provide quality care for the Ada, Oklahoma community. I have been in healthcare for 20 years and have practicing as a nurse practitioner for the last two years. Rural healthcare is passion of mine due to being born and raised in a rural community. My goal as a provider is to provide healthcare closer to home especially for the elderly community. I enjoy developing relationships with my patients. I treat my patients as I would treat my own family.

Initially, I went into nursing, I had a Spanish degree and I saw a need in the community for that in the medical field. When I wanted to advance my career and my education, becoming a nurse practitioner seemed the route that would keep me in contact with patients. I'm passionate about educating patients on the resources that are available to them, because there are a lot of things in the community that people don't know about. Getting patients in touch with people or financial resources doesn?t have to be difficult. There really are a lot of options for people. I chose to work at Mercy because I agree with their core values and their care model, and I think that's important. If you have a good foundation and support from your company, it makes it a lot easier to practice the way that you want to.

The most gratifying part of family medicine is the relationship I build with my patients and their families. I want them to know that we work as a team and listening to them is important. It leads to making decisions together, which results in better outcomes. My patients trust me to take care of their health throughout their lives, and that?s a privilege.
