Created by the Oklahoma Legislature in 1935, the Grand River Dam Authority is a government agency responsible for controlling, storing and preserving the water of the Grand River and its tributaries to develop and generate water power and electric energy. It operates three hydroelectric facilities and manages two lakes. Its facilities, along with the GRDA Coal-Fired Complex generate nearly 1,480 megawatts of electricity. The Grand River Dam Authority transmits and delivers electricity across its 24-county service area in northeastern Oklahoma via energy delivery systems. It sells electricity to municipal clients, electric cooperatives and industries. The agency supports recreational development and environmental awareness around its lakes and maintains a location in Chouteau, Okla.
