Choctaw Electric Cooperative was incorporated in June 1940, after a small group of rural Choctaw County residents gathered in Hugo, Okla. During World War II, Choctaw Electric operated with 45 miles of line serving only 250 customers. Choctaw Electric maintains more than 3,500 miles of line spanning Choctaw, Pushmataha and McCurtain counties in Oklahoma and has more than 16,500 meters on-line. The cooperative also provides its customers with a variety of extended services that include loans to make homes more energy efficient, storm shelters for sale, an energy camp, driving safety classes, school safety classes and a youth tour of Washington, D.C. Choctaw Electric Cooperative is headquartered in Hugo, Okla., with two branches also in Oklahoma.
