St Simon of Cyrene Episcopal Church
St. Simon of Cyrene Episcopal Church, located in Cincinnati, OH, is a welcoming and inclusive community that follows Jesus to learn how to walk in the way of love. They believe that no matter what individuals do in the world, their ultimate work is to deepen their practice of loving and being loved. St. Simon's offers various classrooms for this work, both within themselves and outside in the world, where they practice hospitality as a tangible expression of God's love. They gather every Sunday morning at Jesus' dinner table to share a meal together and continue their journey of love and hospitality.
St. Simon's Mission began in the 1920s during the Great Depression when a number of Black families moved to the area north of Lockland and east of Woodlawn, which later became the City of Lincoln Heights. Recognizing the poverty and lack of churches in the area, the Sisters of St. Simon's took it upon themselves to make a difference. With the support of their council, associates, and friends, they raised funds to purchase a small two-story frame house, where the church was established. Since then, St. Simon's has been committed to caring for their neighbors and creating a community of progressive thinkers, thoughtful pray-ers, passionate singers, and caring friends.
