Founded in 1931, Giant Eagle is one of the largest food retailers and distributors in the United States. The company operates more than 155 corporate and over 65 independently owned and operated supermarkets in addition to nearly 125 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia and Maryland. In addition to a variety of produce, meat and seafood, as well as services that include dry cleaning, on-site supervised child learning, video rental and in-store banking. Some of its stores feature film laboratories, floral shops, activity centers, convenience stores and fuel stations. The company is active in various community events, such as local food banks, the United Way, the Salvation Army, Race for the Cure and other nonprofit organizations. It supports the Apples for the Students program, which provides computer equipment, software and other classroom learning tools for school students. Giant Eagle is headquartered in O'Hara Township, Pa., and operates a store in Newton Falls, Ohio.
