Founded as the S.S. Kresge Company in 1899, Kmart Corporation is a mass-merchandising company that offers products through a portfolio of exclusive brands that include Thalia Sodi, Jaclyn Smith, Joe Boxer, Martha Stewart Everyday and Route 66. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sears Holdings Corporation, a company that is also parent to Sears, Roebuck and Co. As the primary home-appliance retailer in North America, a major provider of home services and a major retailer of tools, lawn and garden, home electronics and automotive repair and maintenance, Sears Holdings owns more than 3,500 full-line and specialty retail stores throughout the United States and Canada. In addition to Kmart s brands, Sears Holdings key proprietary brands through Sears, Roebuck and Co. include Kenmore, Craftsman, DieHard, Lands End, Jaclyn Smith, Apostrophe and Covington. Sears Holdings maintains its corporate headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Ill. Kmart has a distribution center location in Warren, Ohio.
