Columbus Literacy Council ( CLC ), a central Ohio provider of adult basic literacy instruction was founded by Church Women United in 1970. Formally established as a non-profit educational corporation in 1975, CLC's mission is to increase the level of functional literacy among adults reading below an eighth grade level by teaching the English language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
