Historic Kirtland

Visitors to the Morley Farm Trail walk on a short uphill trail to the place where a small schoolhouse once stood, wherein Joseph Smith prophesied and received 13 revelations now found in the Doctrine and Covenants of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Joseph Smith and his family moved to the home of John and Elsa Johnson in Hiram, Ohio, in September 1831. The Johnsons were recent converts to the Church and had become acquainted with the Prophet while in Kirtland. The Johnson Home is now open for guided tours.

The reproduction ashery and sawmill were built on their original locations and opened to the public in 2003. Missionaries lead guided tours through the two buildings. Together they show the united efforts of the early Saints living in Kirtland to consecrate their time, talents, labor, and worldly means to build up the temple, care for the poor, and preach the gospel.
