The Gates Mills Fire Department, established in 1927, is a paid-on call service that operates out of one station and provides fire protection, hazardous materials response, search and rescue, and vehicle extrication services to approximately 2400 residents living in an 8.8 square mile area of Gates Mills, Ohio. The department also conducts yearly fire safety inspections for commercial and institutional facilities within the village and has reciprocal agreements with surrounding communities for additional personnel and equipment in the event of large-scale incidents.
Under the leadership of Fire Chief Thomas Majeski, the Gates Mills Fire Department consists of 22 dedicated members who respond to emergencies from home or other locations, utilizing radio pagers. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are provided through a contract with Mayfield Village Fire Department, ensuring round-the-clock ambulance coverage. The department's commitment to community safety extends beyond its primary responsibilities, as members also serve on specialized regional teams such as the Fire Investigation Task Force and Hillcrest Area Technical Rescue Team.
