Empress Chili
Empress Chili, founded in 1922 by Macedonian immigrant brothers Tom and John Kiradjieff, began serving its legendary chili from a small shop next to the Empress Theatre in downtown Cincinnati. Still family-owned, the restaurant prides itself on using the original recipe that features the finest quality beef and a unique blend of secret spices, with absolutely no preservatives.
Current owner Steve Martin, who acquired the brand in March 2020, has a deep-rooted appreciation for the chili, having enjoyed it almost daily for 35 years. As one of over 150 chili parlors in Greater Cincinnati, Empress Chili holds a prominent place in local culinary history, credited with launching a nationwide fascination with Cincinnati-style chili.
