Brown County, located approximately 30-40 minutes east of Cincinnati, comprises several towns and villages including Georgetown, which serves as the county seat and the boyhood home of Ulysses S. Grant. Established in 1817, the county was named after Jacob Brown, a hero of the War of 1812, and is bordered by the Ohio River and surrounding counties, with a variety of agricultural products and industries supporting its economy.
Governed by a three-member Board of County Commissioners, Brown County is home to over 45,000 residents and provides numerous services through various public agencies. Notable historical landmarks include the Rankin House in Ripley, the first established station of the Underground Railroad aiding in the escape of enslaved individuals to freedom.
