Biomarker Reference Lab

1664 Neil Ave
Columbus, OH 43201

The Biomarker Reference Laboratory (BRL) at The Ohio State University Medical Center is dedicated to advancing clinical testing through innovative research in thrombotic microangiopathies, including thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome. Under the leadership of Dr. Michael Losos, the laboratory employs enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) testing for plasma samples and is a CAP-certified facility.

BRL also serves as the biobank for the United States Thrombotic Microangiopathy Consortium, co-founded by Dr. Spero Catalan in 2014, which aims to enhance research on predictive biomarkers by building a comprehensive referral base of patients with thrombotic microangiopathies. The laboratory collaborates with various sites nationwide to store and test samples, furthering the understanding of these complex conditions.
