The Lake County Clerk of Courts maintains records of legal matters and motor vehicle titles. The office files, dockets, indexes and preserves court pleadings for civil, felony criminal and domestic relation cases. It issues writs on summons, subpoenas, arrest warrants, as well as signs death warrants in capital cases. The Lake County Clerk of Courts collects court costs on more than 6,000 cases annually. It also issues the certificates of title to document the ownership of various vehicles, including automobiles and watercraft. The office collects sales taxes on motor vehicle sales. The Lake County Clerk of Courts additionally offers vehicle license plates. The office is a member of the Lake County's Data Board, Records Commission and Courthouse Security Committee.
