West Rowan VFD
West Rowan Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) is a Class 5 department dedicated to serving the westernmost area of Rowan County, North Carolina, covering approximately 49 square miles of rural homes and farmland. The department, formed by the merger of Centenary VFD and Mount Ulla - Bear Poplar VFD, proudly serves around 3,000 residents in the district.
Established in 2001, following a merger process that began in 1999, West Rowan VFD is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2023, tracing its roots back to the operations of Mt. Ulla - Bear Poplar VFD in 1953 and Centenary VFD in 1956. In response to community needs, the department now includes part-time paid staff to support volunteers during peak daytime hours.
