I chose to become a doctor because getting a medical degree would increase my future career options. My approach to patient care is to listen to the patient and help them understand their options. Outside of work, I enjoy family and church.

I always had an interest in science and helping others growing up. I watched my mom work as a nurse and saw the impact she and her colleagues had on so many of their patients. In high school, I took my first anatomy and physiology class and was enamored by the functions of the human body. I realized that becoming a doctor would satisfy my aspirations of a career in science, while also allowing me to care for others. As I matriculated through college and pre-med courses, I was most interested in the complexities of the cardiovascular system, and this started my journey toward becoming a Vascular Surgeon. I believe in a mutual relationship with patients where we discuss their diagnostic and exam findings along with treatment options to decide on the optimal care plan for each individual patient. One aspect of vascular surgery that attracted me to the specialty is the ability to treat patients both medically and physically. Not every patient with vascular disease requires an operation, and I find it vital to discuss this with patients while also outlining the indications for surgical therapy, when they are warranted. I prefer patients and their loved ones to be involved in the decision-making of their therapy and that everyone understands the goals of care we are working to achieve. My areas of clinical interest include diagnosis and treatment of vasculopathies including congenital disorders, atherosclerotic peripheral arterial disease, aneurysmal disease of the aorta and peripheral vessels, and stroke risk reduction. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my wife and two daughters. We enjoy watching movies, spending time outdoors and going to the beach. I am an avid sports fan, following college and professional football, basketball, and baseball.

I chose to become an advanced practice provider (APP) to be able to offer my patients more comprehensive care. I have been a nurse for over 40 years providing direct, clinical nursing care, which encouraged me to complete a long-time goal of mine to become an adult gerontological nurse practitioner (AGNP) in 2018. I have seen many changes in healthcare over the years, often resulting in fragmented care. As an APP, I can deliver an advanced level of care, which gives me the opportunity to play an active role in my patients' overall well-being. I do feel we all have been given special talents by God, and we should use them to the best of our abilities to help others. My clinical areas of special interest include wound, ostomy and continence nursing as well as pre- and post-operative care. My philosophy of care is a holistic approach to patient care. This is especially important in taking the time to listen to my patients and being empathetic with the situation they are facing. Often, my patients may face many obstacles dealing with chronic, non-healing wounds or bowel/ bladder diversions as the result of a necessary surgical procedure. Many times, they are faced with life altering events in order to, hopefully, return to productive life styles. With these situations, it is imperative to develop a strong, supportive patient/provider relationship in order to achieve positive outcomes. I encourage my patients to be proactive in their own healthcare prevention as well as maintenance of chronic issues. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially being a Mimi, as well as time with my friends. I am very active in my church on various committees and participating in the children programs. I love cooking, gardening and spending time at the beach.
