W.R. Vernon Produce Company is a wholesale distributor of fresh fruits and vegetables to retailers, other wholesalers, food service distributors and the general public. The company s facility in Winston-Salem, N.C., has a total storage capacity of 50,000 square feet, including dock space for 60 trucks and 12 banana-ripening rooms. The company also acquired another 25,000-square-foot warehouse for tomato storage and ripening and to house its Vernon Packaging operation. W.R. Vernon is family-owned and operated by third and fourth generation descendants. The company was established in 1931 in the founder s home.
