I went into medicine to help people be healthier. I want all my patients to enjoy their lives as much as possible - not just the day to day of everyday living now but in the decades to come. The medical research is overwhelmingly clear that physically active individuals are not only less likely to suffer from dementia/Alzheimer's disease, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, infections, back pain, depression, anxiety and deadly cancer, but are more likely to sleep better, have less stress, more energy and an overall better quality of life. \n I see my role as that of a trusted advisor. I take the time to explain options so my patients and I can make an informed decision together. Many active individuals delay going to the doctor out of fear they'll be told to stop the activities they love. I work diligently with my patients to keep them active while treating their injury. \n As a sports medicine physician, I have a unique perspective. I've been very active with sports and activities my entire life and have sustained countless injuries. When I'm treating a patient, I'm often not treating based only on my studies but based on real-life experiences with other patients or my own experiences as an athlete. \n I am double board-certified in family medicine and nonsurgical sports medicine, and spent my career taking care of all levels of athletes and active individuals in Charlotte. I've been honored to be named one of the Charlotte Business Journal's Top Docs in sports medicine on multiple occasions. \n I've also been honored to serve as a physician with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, as the medical director for the Charlotte Marathon and have spent more than a decade as the team physician for Queens University of Charlotte, Myers Park High School and the USA canoe and kayak team. \n Some of the highlights of my career include providing medical coverage for Team USA at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games and world championships, and working many times on the medical staff at the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, and the World's Strongest Man World Championship. I've also enjoyed being the on-field physician for international soccer matches and many other events in nearly every sport. \n I understand the urge to stay active. I have completed numerous full IRONMAN triathlons, including competing in the IRONMAN World Championship, the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship and the New York City Marathon. I play soccer and basketball, hike, camp and participate in many other sports. I coach my two daughters' soccer and basketball teams and cheer for my wife, who has also completed numerous IRONMAN triathlons.
