History

New Bern bakery to offer a little bit of whimsy, lots of pizzazz. Sugarplum Bakery in James City. There's nothing as alluring as the scent of freshly baked cookies except, maybe, freshly baked bread. For residents of the James City area, freshly baked goodies are available every day. Cherry Point medical coder Michelle Hall has always dreamed of having her own bakery since growing up and helping her Italian grandma make Christmas cookies every year. I've baked for a lot of years and I wanted to do this for a long time, Hall said. I make a chocolate chip cookie that is a pretty good cookie, and I wanted to have a place where I could make cookies, do cheesecakes, and have gift wrap because I love doing gift wrap. Hall's new business, Sugarplum Bakery, located at 1244 U.S. 70 East, will offer a variety of baked goods from doughnuts to pastries to scones to macaroons.

Specialties

We are a full capacity bakery, cakes, cookies, donuts, breads etc. We specialize in Buttercream Frosted Cakes and Cupcakes. Provide a wide variety of puff pastry treats. Turnovers, Fruit Danishes, and a huge fan favorite Cream Cheese Strudel Danish. Our donuts are hands down the best in the east.
