Fire Station 5 in Salisbury, NC has a rich history, originally erected in 1942 as Fire Station 2 under the direction of Fire Chief Charles L. Burkett. After serving the community for 38 years, it was replaced by the current Fire Station 2 in 1980. In 2014, the fire department reclaimed the building and began renovating it to restore it as an active fire station, while also preserving several items of fire department historical interest.
