Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department-South Station

The Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department operates two stations in the area, with the South Station built in 2010 to enhance fire protection in conjunction with the Manteo Station. This facility features a dayroom, two sleeping quarters, and a full kitchen, along with six bays that house various emergency response vehicles, including engines, a tanker, a rescue unit, and boats.

The North Station, established in 1990, replaced the Downtown Manteo station and includes offices, a meeting room, and sleeping quarters on the second floor. It houses eight bays for two engines, a ladder, an air wagon, a command truck, a dive van, a utility truck, and a rescue fireboat.
