The Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department, located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, has a rich history of being the first fire department on the Outer Banks, dating back to 1928 when it started as a bucket brigade. Today, the department operates out of two stations on Roanoke Island, answering fire calls and serving the community.

With its origins in the small town of Manteo, the Manteo Fire Department moved to its current location in downtown Manteo in 1930. In 1974, it joined forces with the Wanchese Fire Department to form the unified Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department. The department's commitment to serving the community is evident in its continuous growth and the addition of a new station in Wanchese in 2010.
