Both my parents in the medical profession so, I observed first-hand the fulfillment they got from caring for their patients and their families. They were an inspiring example. Neither pushed me into medicine, but I wanted the same satisfaction they got from their careers. \n I was drawn to surgery as an avenue to impact someone's health after - and even before - the procedure. Surgery, and specifically colorectal surgery, is a field with plentiful opportunities to help patients with issues ranging from inflammatory bowel disease to cancer to diverticulitis. \n Being a physician allows me to blend my love of science and my desire to help people lead healthier lives. Medicine connects people with science - and, for me, there's nothing better. \n I want to be part of my patients' journeys to better health, so I approach healthcare in a patient-driven manner. I work to ensure my patients understand their diagnosis and the treatment plan we develop together. (I always want my patients to be actively engaged in their care.) Outside the office, there's no one I'd rather spend time with than my family - and our dog. We enjoy playgrounds, hiking and walking and all types of sports - whether we're playing or just watching. I also enjoy cooking and grilling for a big group of family and friends.
