Nursing appealed to me because it offered me the opportunity to help people achieve and maintain optimal health. My days as an ICU nurse taught me that I wanted to develop long-term relationships with patients rather than see them only in a critical-care setting. So, I went back to school to become a family nurse practitioner, which has given me the ability to treat people of all ages, including entire families. I have had the privilege of taking care of friends and patients that became friends. Nursing is truly a remarkable profession. Listening is the most important tool we, as clinicians, have. And I strive to be a good one. I believe patients should be the decision-makers about their own health. My job is to share my knowledge and guide them to make the best decision possible. I strive to help them navigate a complex healthcare system, improve their well-being and be there for them in whatever health challenges may arise.
