Mason, Alina

I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with over a decade of experience in the behavioral health field. I have treated children, adolescents and adults facing a wide range of diagnoses in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I join the new Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (IDD) clinic following my time on the psychiatric emergency services team within UNCs Department of Emergency Medicine. Working in acute crisis settings has allowed me to witness first-hand how these settings negatively impact those with IDD and comorbid psychiatric diagnoses. Having lived experience gives me the empathy to relate to clients and their families. When appropriate, I hope to divert clients from the Emergency Department by providing supportive care, instilling hope and compassion, and yielding positive outcomes for patients. I additionally will strive to guide patients through the delicate and often challenging transition between adolescence and adulthood; helping patients practice life skills, leading to autonomy and living life to their fullest capacity.

In operation for 10 years, Securing Resources For Consumers Inc. provides support and services to persons with complex behavioral, mental health and developmental challenges. Based in Durham, N.C., the company serves adults, children and families in North Carolina in a variety of settings, including psychiatric hospitals, at home and at other group homes and placements. Some of its services include diagnostic assessment, case management, community support, intensive in-home support and developmental therapy. In addition, Securing Resources for Consumers Inc. also provides adults and seniors with services, including independent living, supervised living and personal care.

I chose to become a social worker and clinician to help others and make a positive difference in peoples lives. I aim to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves and am feel strongly about promoting social justice, importance of human relationships and the dignity and worth of a person. My philosophy of patient care is to make sure I am giving each patient quality services that are specific to their individual needs, and also to treat every patient with dignity and respect while providing safe and ethical care. When I am not at work, I like to hike, travel and spend time with my family.
