John Paul Vavalle, MD, MHS

The Department of Urology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is committed to providing outstanding and innovative clinical care to the people of North Carolina, the Southeast and throughout the United States.

I enjoy building relationships with my patients and finding solutions to meet their needs. I grew up in North Carolina and appreciate being a part of the local community. Outside of work, I like spending time outdoors with my dog and cheering for NC Courage.

I’m an oncologist at UNC. I care for patients with leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome. I believe medicine is a calling to serve and care for patients and I strive to provide person-centered, compassionate care. My research interests include quality of life, patient preferences and values, quality care delivery, and patient-centered outcomes. I lead a research program focused on developing approaches to identify patient values at the point of care and assisting oncologists to align care with what matters most to patients. I love to spend time outside of work with my wife and three kids and serving at our church.
