About Correction EnterprisesCorrection Enterprises is a division within the North Carolina Department of Correction that provides the state's inmates with opportunities to learn job skills by producing goods and services for the Department of Correction and other tax-supported entities.No money is appropriated by the General Assembly for the operation of Correction Enterprises. This organization aids in the rehabilitation of inmates by teaching them job skills that are easily transferable to the private sector upon release.Correction Enterprises consists of 30 separate revenue producing operations located throughout the state, plus administrative offices in Raleigh and a central warehouse in Apex. The Enterprises operation employs approximately 380 staff and 2100 inmate workers.It is the intent of North Carolina Correction Enterprises to provide the highest quality goods and services to its customers at competitive prices.It is through the vigilance of each Enterprises employee and the constructive feedback from Enterprises customers that products and services continuously improve. No article or commodity available from Correction Enterprises shall be purchased by any State department, institution, or agency from any other source unless the prison product does not meet the standard specifications and the reasonable requirements of the department, institution, or agency as determined by the Secretary of Administration or the requisition cannot be complied with because of an insufficient supply of the articles or commodities required. The provisions of Article 3 of Chapter 143 of the General Statutes respecting contracting for the purchase of all supplies, materials, and equipment required by the State government or any of its departments, institutions, or agencies under competitive bidding shall not apply to articles or commodities available from Correction Enterprises. Correction Enterprises shall be required to keep the price of such articles or commodities substantially in accord with that paid by governmental agencies for similar articles and commodities of equivalent quality. Established in 1978, the Wayne Correctional Center is a medium security prison for adult males. The prison accommodates more than 400 inmates. Its drug/alcohol recovery treatment (DART) program provides intensive inpatient treatment in a 35 to 90 day treatment cycle with lectures, films, and educational and therapy groups. The program also offers individual counseling sessions. The Wayne Correctional Center s inmates work with professional staff and peer counselors. The prison, in a partnership with Wayne Community College, provides adult educational classes. Its inmates are assigned to work as maintenance and kitchen staff at the prison. The Wayne Correctional Center is a part of the Division of Prisons of the North Carolina Department of Correction.

The Sanford Correctional Center is a security prison for adult males. It can accommodate more than 300 inmates in Sanford in North Carolina. The center features 45-plus-bed dormitories. The Sanford Correctional Center manages a staff of over 70 employees. It provides work force solutions in the areas of janitorial services and groundskeeping. The center offers adult education and GED preparation classes through Central Carolina Community College. The Sanford Correctional Center administers alcoholics anonymous and narcotics anonymous programs. It provides short-term manual labor for local and state agencies.
