The George Davis Monument in Wilmington, NC is an 8-foot tall bronze sculpture mounted on a granite base. Created by sculptor Francis Herman Packer and the Gorham Manufacturing Company, the monument commemorates George Davis, a Confederate Senator and Attorney General from 1820-1896. The sculpture depicts Davis standing upright, with his right hand raised in the air and his left hand resting on a decorated pedestal. The base of the monument features gilded seals of both North Carolina and the Confederate states.
On June 25, 2020, the bronze statues of the Wilmington Confederate Monument and the George Davis Monument were removed, and the base and signage for both monuments were covered in black shrouds. The George Davis Monument, dedicated on April 20, 1911, was unveiled by four of Davis' grandsons, with a dedication speech delivered by Henry G. Connor, a judge of the United States Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The monument, sponsored by The United Daughters of the Confederacy Cape Fear Chapter 3, stands as a historic and political tribute to George Davis and the Confederate States of America.
