History

Now who is the person behind this great practice? His name is Dr. Benedict Okwara, and he started this practice in 1994. His ambition came from the realization that there was a dire need for an outpatient facility so that doctors could better serve their community and provide them with the healthcare needed to prosper. He was also very conscientious about the wide variety of financial situations that his future patients would have, so he made sure that his practice would be able to work with many different insurances as well as have a self-pay option for those patients who are not insured.

Welcome to First Care Medical Clinic First Care Medical Clinic is a comprehensive, walk-in or by-appointment family care and urgent care medical center, with five North Carolina locations in Monroe, Albemarle, Gastonia, and two offices in Charlotte, as well as a clinic in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Benedict Okwara, MD, opened the first location in 1994 after his experience working in a hospital emergency room convinced him that a well-equipped outpatient clinic could provide patients with better outcomes at less cost. In the more than 20 years since, First Care Medical Clinic has grown to six locations which accommodate 35,000 patient visits per year. At First Care Medical Clinic, women, men, and children of all ages, genders, and backgrounds get the individualized care they need and deserve. The highly-skilled, experienced, and compassionate physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and staff are dedicated to making every patient who walks through the door feel comfortable, understood, and well-attended.
