With two stations, nine apparatus, and two support vehicles, they offer a wide range of emergency response services, covering over 50 square miles and responding to an average of 1500 calls per year. Rated as a split class 5 5 department by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and Department of Insurance, Columbus Fire Department provides mutual aid to all five other departments in Polk County, along with a 75' Spartan ladder and a swift water team.

Comprising nine paid employees and 28 dedicated volunteers, Columbus Fire Department ensures that its members receive regular training and hold the necessary certifications. Recently, they have also established a ladies auxiliary to provide additional support.
