Artery Gallery

The Artery Gallery was started by David R. Thomas in August of 1983, at our present location of 1711 Spring Garden Street in Greensboro. Owner David Thomas, also does oil paintings by commission. Store manager Esia Ackley is our mat cutter using our Eclipse Pro matcutter, and takes care of our scheduling. Assembly and framing are done by our experienced staff. We can help solve most any technical or design problem when framing or decorating. All of us have college level education in design and art, plus many years of hands-on experience. Together our staff has over 35 years of framing experience in framing everything from simple jobs like a mat and a frame to complicated shadowboxes, fan cases, or baptismal gowns. All of our specialty work is done by hand, including all the sewing and mounting. Most of our frames are cut with miter saws or a Jyden razor chopper, while the mats are cut with an Eclipse Pro computerized mat cutter. Frames are joined in the most part with a VN42 V-nailer machine which uses compressed air to drive small wedges into the frames. Frames that are too thin to be built on the V-nailer are built by hand, just as they have been for years. We use the best non-toxic framing building glue we could find after having done our own tests on many products. We also have one of the largest mounting presses in the business, and can fit a four by eight sheet of plywood in it with room to spare! To help in choosing the right framing for you, we have obtained over three thousand corner samples of mouldings which we have on display from most of the major companies like LaMarche, Max, Nurre Caxton, Decor and Abe Munn. Add to that our comprehensive sets of matboard samples, including Miller, Crescent, and Bainbridge, the three industry leaders, and you have a set of options for framing that span most of what is available in today's framing markets. We have been told by many sales reps that we carry one of the largest selections of mouldings and matboards not only in North Carolina, but in nearly any frame shop anywhere. We are constantly getting in new samples and on average we put up about five sets of new frame corner samples each month. This ensures that each time you come in there is something new to see. Our gallery provides a nice selection of oil paintings, prints, posters and other fine art. We carry not only framed pieces, but hundreds of prints and posters ready for framing. If you are looking for a print or poster and need some ideas, we have many reference books that you can view prints in, like Graphique De France, Editions Limited, and Haddads Fine Art. If you are looking for a particular print or poster, we can usually find out in just a few minutes with a phone call whether or not it is available.
