Established in 1995, The Cognitive Connection is an organization that provides treatment and care services to adolescents and adults who are victims of substance abuse addiction. It serves the communities of Catawba, Burke, Caldwell and Alexander counties in North Carolina. The organization offers various cognitive behavioral intervention, employment training, education and case management programs. Its educational and employment programs include the WIA Out-of-School Youth Program, Adult WIA Educational/Vocational Training, WIA Educational Solutions Program and Partner in JobLink Career Center. The Cognitive Connection also provides training and technical assistance services to criminal justice and other human service agencies. Its Drug Treatment Court is a court-supervised treatment program that includes supervision, treatment, addiction prevention and recovery services for addicted offenders. The organization s other treatment programs include the Adult Substance Abuse Treatment, Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment, Substance Abuse Prevention and Day Reporting Center - Burke County. Leadership Charlotte, founded in 1978, is a renowned organization dedicated to developing and enhancing volunteer community leadership in Charlotte, NC. Through their inclusive leadership development programs, they provide emerging and existing leaders with opportunities to increase their community knowledge, civic network, and service to the community. Their flagship program, the Leadership Charlotte Core Program, is a 10-month immersive experience designed for leaders at various stages of their careers. Additionally, ENCOUNTER Charlotte, a one or two-day orientation to Charlotte and community leadership, is offered twice a year. VFW Post 3746 has been instrumental in preserving the history and heritage of African American veterans who bravely served our country. VFW Post 3746 raises funds to help veterans who served in wars overseas.The purpose of the post is to provide support for service men and women returning home from combat while serving with the United States military. Today the membership is composed of veterans who experienced combat in World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Gulf Wars. A majority of our members are disabled and homeless, and require special needs. We are expanding our services to provide support for these veterans.
