Crossnore Weavers was established in 1920 by Dr. Mary Martin Sloop, founder of The Crossnore School. Dr. Sloop's desire was to provide a trade for women and girls so they could support their families. Sale of woven goods then supported the mission of the School.
Crossnore Weavers, located on our Avery campus, was created to preserve the Appalachian art of hand-weaving, to give an economic opportunity to women, and to promote Crossnore School & Children's Home through the sale of beautiful hand-woven goods all over the world.
