Being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just 15 months old shaped much of my childhood and rooted my passion for medicine. Growing up in Key West, Florida, I had limited access to specialized care, so we frequently made the four-hour drive to Miami for my diabetes appointments. \n This experience sparked my curiosity about my disease and the medical field as a whole. Eventually, that curiosity led me to medical school. I realized my personal experience with chronic illness gave me a unique ability to empathize with patients facing their own health challenges. Internal medicine is the perfect specialty for me. It allows for long-term relationships with patients and the opportunity to solve complex, puzzling cases and a broad range of conditions. \n Collaboration, trust and understanding are qualities I strive for in every patient relationship. I focus on understanding the whole person, not just their medical conditions. I believe that when patients feel heard and valued, it is so much easier to work together to achieve their health goals. \n Away from the office, family and health are my top priorities. My husband, Jake, and I have twin boys, Ryder and Griffin. We love spending time outdoors together - at the beach, on a hike in the mountains, or during pool and boat days with family and friends. We also love exploring new restaurants in the Lake Norman area. When I get time alone, I love running, cycling, cooking and gardening. I make it a priority to balance work and personal life, so I can stay energized and focused on providing the best care to my patients.

My passion for helping people, my love of science and my penchant for building meaningful relationships led me to a career in medicine. Internal medicine, with its focus on managing adult health conditions and fostering deep relationships, has been the perfect fit for me. For the past 35 years, I've dedicated myself to providing compassionate, timely and competent care. \n I strive to treat each patient as if they were family. And after knowing some of my patients for nearly three decades, many of them feel like family. \n As my longtime patients encounter some of the health challenges that often accompany aging, I've become interested in the health concerns of seniors. I brought that expertise to my previous service on the executive board for The Pines at Davidson, a retirement community in the area. \n I held several leadership roles at my previous medical group, including serving as co-medical director for the COVID Virtual Hospital in 2020 at the first such facility in the nation to respond to the pandemic. In addition, I've been honored with multiple Top Doctor awards from Charlotte Magazine and Business North Carolina. \n I've been married to - and supported by - my wife of over 30 years, who's a full-time mental health counselor and owner of Triple Play Farm, where she guides patients through equine-facilitated psychotherapy. We have three sons: Jake, who served in the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps; Ben, who leads cybersecurity for a Charlotte startup; and Sam, who will work in military intelligence for the U.S. Army upon college graduation.
