Bunker Hill Covered Bridge

Bunker Hill Covered Bridge is a National Civil Engineering Landmark, and it is one of only two covered bridges in North Carolina. Part of Connor Park, the bridge is tucked into the wilderness at the end of a short stream-side trail. Picnic tables, a small area of stream access, and proximity to major thoroughfares add to this site's appeal as a leg-stretching stop for travelers.

The park is best accessible by automobile. A small gravel parking lot can accommodate up to a dozen cars. The park is handicapped accessible, but motorized vehicles are not allowed on the trail.

Best and worst time to go
The park is open daily, dawn until dusk. Except in extremely rare occasions, the quiet park isn't likely to draw crowds large enough to fill the lot. Spring and early summer months (April-June) offer visitors a glimpse of indigenous wildflowers. A trip in late September-October is colored by fall foliage in the wooded area surrounding the park.

Bridge and park access is free to the public. The site is maintained by the Catawba County Historical Association.

Two paths lead to the bridge from the parking area. Use one for the walk in, explore the second on the way out. Take a few moments to consider signage that details the bridge's historical significance while enjoying the sound of Lyle Creek rippling under the wooden structure.
