Morganton City Hall houses various departments, including administration, development and design, electric, finance, human resources, public safety, and parks and recreation. Its finance department provides a variety of services in the areas of accounting, payroll, purchasing, budget, utility billing, tax payment processing, debt management and financial report preparation. Morganton City Hall also houses the offices of the city manager, clerk and mayor. It maintains a legal department that provides in-house counseling services to the city council on issues related to city ordinances and federal and state laws. The city hall also has a public works department that performs a range of functions, such as garbage pickup, city warehousing, recycling, and streets, cemeteries and grounds maintenance.
