After caring for my grandmother during an extended illness, I knew I was destined for a career in healthcare. That experience, along with the example set for me by my aunt who is a nurse, showed me the power of compassionate, skilled care during a person's most vulnerable moments. \n I found my calling in emergency medicine and cardiac nursing, where each day brings a new challenge and an opportunity to make a difference. My work in teaching has deepened my passion for this field; sharing knowledge with future nurses helps me contribute to quality care beyond the bedside. I find great joy in mentoring nurse and nurse practitioner students, helping the next generation of caregivers gain necessary skills. \n Compassion, clear communication and evidence-based practice is at the center of all care I provide. I believe in treating each patient as a whole person, not just a list of symptoms. At every patient encounter, I listen closely, provide education about any medical conditions and partner with each patient in making their care decisions. My years of experience in emergency settings have taught me to stay calm under pressure and focus on what truly matters: listening to my patients and acting with their best interest at heart. \n I am married with one son, who keeps my spouse and I busy with a full calendar of sports activities including football, soccer and basketball. As a family, we love attending games and cheering from the sidelines, especially if we have a chance to go to a University of North Carolina or Wake Forest game. Traveling together whenever we get a chance is a favorite way of making memories and recharging. I also enjoy live music and love going to concerts.

In school, I always enjoyed learning about how the body works, so medicine was the obvious career path for me. It's an honor to work with my patients on getting, and keeping, them healthy. The best patient care involves the provider and the patient working in tandem toward a shared goal. My expertise and natural empathy help me to be the best partner I can be for my patients. Awards aren't why I do what I do, but it's always nice to be recognized for my work. I was named Outstanding Physician in Daytona Beach, Florida in 2012 by the local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Before moving to the Triad, I practiced medicine in Florida and was active in a number of health-related causes and organizations. I served on HeadStart's health committee in Bunnell, Florida from 1995 to 2000, on the Association of Retarded Citizens' Advisory Board in Palm Coast, Florida from 1998 to 2004 and on the Advisory Board for the Jesus Clinic, a free medical clinic in Daytona Beach from 2009 to 2019. In addition, I served as a clinical investigator for several clinical trials in Daytona Beach from 2012 to 2016. I have two grown children - a daughter, Victoria Britt, who's a Physician Assistant with Novant Health Waughtown, and a son, Ernie Britt, who works for the Color of Change PAC. My two grandchildren keep me busy when I'm not in the office. I enjoy reading - particularly about geopolitics, singing, doing Zumba and being an active member of both the Winston-Salem Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta and my church, Winston-Salem First.
