I learned about the field of audiology through a close childhood friend. She was diagnosed with a progressive hearing loss when we were children. Seeing her experience with hearing aids and, then later with cochlear implants, inspired me to pursue pediatric audiology. I treat each patient with the same respect, time, dedication, and commitment I would invest on a close family member or friend. I intend to put the patients best health interests first. It is very important to build lasting relationships where there is mutual trust between patient and provider. The treatment approach I would use for a patient is very individualized based on their specific needs. When I am not seeing patients, I enjoy trail running, traveling, and spending time with my husband and our two dogs.

I choose to become a doctor because I enjoy working with people to solve problems. Disease is the problem of a patient's health, which affects their quality of life. My task is to identify the problem, present solutions to the patient and to find the best solution for each individual patient. My philosophy of care is to involve the patient to determine the diagnosis and possible solutions. I don't like when doctors give a prescription and then say "lets see what happens". I like to outline a multiple-step plan of action with the patient's understanding and input. Then that plan may be altered based upon new information. I'm an active person who indulges in hobbies such as hunting, fishing and golfing. I also appreciate spending time with my family; although all three of my daughters are grown, my wife and I are beginning to experience the joys of being grandparents.

I chose to become a doctor because in college I had a strong interest in the biological sciences and I enjoyed discussing the knowledge I learned with friends and family and educating them on how it impacts their day-to-day life, health and well-being. I believe this proved to be a natural gravitation to becoming a physician for me and something I am still passionate about to this day. I am particularly interested in hearing restoration in the hearing impaired and restorative procedures for hearing loss. These include things as simple as getting patients hearing aids who need them, placing ear tubes for children with chronic ear infections and as complex as performing surgery to repair ruptured ear drums and damaged ear bones, and even includes surgical implantable hearing devices such as bone anchored hearing aids and cochlear implants. I am also very interested in the treatment and surgery of sinonasal diseases such as chronic sinusitis and nasal obstruction and the management of thyroid and parotid gland masses. My approach to patient care is really shared decision making. I believe that patient autonomy should be at the forefront of medical decision making and what patients ultimately decide to do with their bodies is their choice. It is my duty to educate patients on their health status so that they may make informed decisions about their health, even if I may not necessarily agree with those decisions. That being said, it is also my responsibility as a provider to strongly emphasize what I believe is in the best interest of their health. Outside of work, I love the outdoors. Whether it's hiking, climbing, camping or sailing, my wife and I cannot be outside enough. I also greatly enjoy working on and restoring classic sports cars.
