I have always been passionate about patient education and helping patient achieve their health goals. While working in the hospital, I noticed a lack of health literacy in the patient population I was working with. As a nurse practitioner, I can serve as a primary source to help patients improve their health and access to care. My model of patient care is patient-centered care, which means having the patient serve as an equal partner in developing personalized goals for their care plan. My particular interest in healthcare includes primary prevention and womens health. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three boys, traveling, and enjoying any outdoor activity.

Prior to becoming a physician assistant, I was a nuclear medical technologist, which was interesting but lacked the gratification of complete follow-through of patient care and knowing what happened to the patient once leaving the department. I was very curious as to what brought him in to see the physician, overall diagnosis, treatment and management. After several years of feeling unfulfilled, I decided to further my education to become a physician assistant. Now, I have the ability to completely follow patients’ healthcare from the initial visit to diagnosis, treatment and management. Making every patient a priority and getting to know that patient as a person are my requirements to provide better care for patients. Realizing that each person is a unique individual, understanding their specific physical and emotional issues, and not treating them as if they are patients on a medical assembly line allows for more effective healthcare. In my free time, I enjoy watching and attending college sporting events. I exercise several times per week and enjoy relaxing on the beaches of our North Carolina coast and Outer Banks.

I became a physician assistant because I have an interest in medicine and passion for people. I love building relationships with my patients and having a positive impact on their lives. Whether that is through being present and listening to their concerns, or performing a procedure, I aspire for my patients to feel comfortable and cared for. I have learned so much from the patients over the years, and I am honored to be a part of their care team. My approach to patient care is to treat my patients with respect, to listen to their concerns, and to collaborate with my patients to build the best treatment plan for them. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two sons. I also enjoy being active and outdoors, as well as crafting.
